Another Long But Beautiful Drive

The day didn't start out well Tuesday.  It was raining hard in Amarillo, TX.  Nathan and I both ended up pretty wet by the time we had the van loaded.  Drowned rats is a more apt description!

It was about an hour drive in the pounding rain to the New Mexico border...you'll have to excuse the somewhat foggy hazy pictures...rain doesn't help with clarity.

In all fairness to Oklahoma and Texas, there's a whole lot of flat nothing on I-40 from Oklahoma City to the New Mexico border.

It wasn't long after the border until we started seeing some beautiful vistas.

We tried to go to the Tramway in Albuquerque, NM and were fascinated by the adobe houses.  Stacked right on top of each other...even the A/C units were put on the roofs...

Ah, but the views of the city were amazing...

Then it was into some of the 'red rock' areas...

There was a scenic overlook of this Native American village...

And the vending booths at the overlook...

With a kindly reminder to say behind the fence to hawk your wares...

Then we hit AZ...finally!

The official welcome sign...

Seth wanted to go hiking right behind the Welcome Center...especially because of the sign!

It has been a bunch of driving but we are so glad we drove this trip.  We live in an amazing and diverse country!  God's creation seemed to amaze us around each bend in the road.  It's some hiking and sight-seeing Wednesday then on to the Grand Canyon on Thursday...we can hardly wait!

Have you guys made it out of the Grand Canyon yet? Thinking about you and hoping you are having a wonderful time. Pappy and Grammy

P.S. Since we're technologically challenged, we don't even know if you have received our attempts at posting a comment to you.
